Nmap 4.7 is a program to audit the security in a network.
With its exploring features, you can also perform network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime.
By using raw IP packets, the program is able to tell which hosts are available on the network, which services (application name and version) are being offered by those hosts and the OS and version they´re running.
It also tells you what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics.
Nmap features many port scanning mechanisms (both TCP and UDP).
This program runs on all major computer operating systems, including Linux, Microsoft Windows, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, IRIX, Mac OS X, HP-UX, NetBSD, Sun OS, Amiga, and more.
You can use both the console and graphical versions.
The program saves every scan you perform, for later reference. You can also save the results in a file or compare them.
You can also view a graphical representation of the topology of the network.
Quick and easy identification and mapping of managed network switch ports.
